The Fucking Awesome History

When Jason Dill printed some of his self-made designs for his brand Fucking Awesome on T-shirts in his New York apartment in 2001, he probably didn't think that this idea would become one of the most sought-after skateboard brands worldwide.

Jason Dill was and is not an easy character, his lifestyle at the time is an expression of this. But maybe it was exactly this difficult phase of Dill's life that gave Fucking Awesome its unique look to this day. Jason Dill had been promoted to pro status at a young age and his part in Alien Workshop videos like Photosynthesis were legendary, showing the genius of his skateboarding and his creative aura. Growing up on the East Coast of America, Dill never fit the stereotype of the typical Californian skateboarder, which incidentally was true of many East Coast skaters like Ryan Hickey, Rickey Oyola or Danny Supa .

During this time, a small shop on New York's Lafayette Street called Supreme became a meeting place for the New York skateboard scene. This shop was also the buyer of Jason Dill's self-printed t-shirts for years. During this time he also made occasional collabs with brands like aNYthing or even with Etines Footwear - although the shoe never really made it to Europe - the reason for this was the controversial Fucking Awesome lettering. Over time, FA continued to grow and Dill realized that while he wasn't a businessman, he couldn't continue in that way - either in business or in health. Then there was the fact that Alien Workshop, one of the most renowned skate brands in the world, more or less broke up and Dill was without a board sponsor. So Dill decided to move to California, a decision that impacted not only him but the global skateboarding scene as well.

The fucking breakthrough

After Jason Dill had completed his time in New York, a new phase in his life began around 2011. Arriving in California, the first thing to do was to stand on your own two feet and a collaboration with Vans was his first step. After the collapse of Alien Workshop, Dill teamed up with his close friend Anthony van Engelen to develop a proper skate brand , Fucking Awesome .

At the same time, former Alien filmer and friend of Dill's, Bill Strobeck , was filming Supreme 's first full-length video, " Cherry ," with some kids known only to a few skateboarders. Jason and AVE quickly recognized the potential of these kids and the video project. In 2013 the first Fucking Awesome Boards came out and from that point on the two also supported Bill Strobeck's project. When Supreme presented their video "Cherry" in 2014 and helped the then still young skateboarders like Tyshawn Jones , Sage Elsesser, Sean Pablo, Nakel Smith or Kevin Bradley to their big breakthrough, they were all already signed to Fucking Awesome.

A little later, two heavyweights from the skateboard scene, Dylan Rieder and Gino Ianucci, and the talented Elijah Berle were added. This special mixture of team riders, the zeitgeisty subversive graphics and, above all, the focus on the quality of the products were or are the success factors of this unique brand.
